The "Laghu-Vakya-Vritti" (short exposition of Vedic sentences) of Sri Shankara, consisting of only 18 verses, seems to ba an abridged presentation of his larger Advaitic treatise—"Vakya-Vritti", which has 53 verses. Both of these works aim at clarifying the meanings and implications of the Maha-Vakyas—the great Vedic sentences dealing with the unity of the individual self and the supreme Self.
